Science Enrichment-Pd. 6 Assignments

These materials will help us wrap up our mini-unit on human impacts on the environment. The reading posted earlier today, plus the Gizmo, will not be due this Friday but NEXT Friday as we finish Quarter 4 online.

As always, let me know if you have any questions, don't understand the reading, are confused about the Gizmo, etc. I am available to walk you through the assignments on Google Meets this week from 9 AM - 10 AM every day if you're having trouble.

One of the several options for this weeks activities. You can work through all the lessons, or just a few.

Take time this week to apply what you have learned about the water cycle, biotic factors, cells and DNA to look at the big picture when we consider how human populations impact surrounding ecosystems. Remember to spend 15-20 minutes a day on any one assignment. You do not have to complete them all, choose which one works best for you!

NASA Scientists have turned their sights to exploring Mars, and this week you will too. Pick any or all activities from the menu to work on at home. If you want to answer the questions, I also created a Doc with sentence frames for each of the activities.

Friday we will talk about barriers and challenges to engineering these devices. Those of use who made them will race our rovers, compare astonaut landers, talk about space and time, and why it feels like its going by so fast (and also so slow!)

Choose your activities for this week!

1. You do not have to do all of them
2. The activities on the left side of the Menu take the least amount of time (10 min, 2 days a week)
3. The activities on the right take the most amount of time (20 min per day)

We'll talk about viruses and see what you remember about cells during class on Friday.

One of the most important parts of the water cycle? The oceans. You have been using the Gizmos to simulate different conditions the ocean can generate to create weather here on land. It's your turn to look more closely at different parts of the planet where the oceans are largely un-impacted by humans.

3. Look through the different expeditions researchers have gone through.
4. Open Exploration Guide and read through directions
5. Complete Exploration Questions, be ready to discuss what you have learned about one article/location on Friday during our Google Meets class.

I'm looking through your water cycle Gizmos now and you did fan-TASTic. Super impressed to also see other students who went ahead and did the assessments on the Gizmo site in addition, which weren't required but will absolutely help your understanding. If you want to access these but don't know how, just ask! DJ and Izzy are good resources too.

As you know from the schedule I posted on Friday, we're continuing with weather, building on our knowledge of the Water Cycle. Here's your new task:

1. Click on the PDF titled "Coastal Winds Clouds" below. Read through the vocabulary before starting.
2. Open up the Google Doc title "Coastal Winds and Clouds Student Sheet."
3. Answer the Prior Knowledge Questions BEFORE launching your Gizmo.
4. Click on the ExploreLearning Gizmos link and log in to your account. Again, if you forgot it just ask, I have your account information.
5. Launch the Coastal Winds and Clouds Gizmo.

Initial instructions and rubric are attached, this will be the final score inputted into Infinite Campus. The rubric is the same for both verions of the project that you chose, this means that the choice (Version A or Version B) will not affect the grade you recive.
