Hele-On to Assist with School Bus Shortage

Hele-On to Assist with School Bus Shortage

Hawaii County has been experiencing a school bus service shortage since the start of the school year. Under a partnership between Hawaii County and the State Department of Education, students who live near an existing Hele-On route can receive a Hele-On monthly pass to get to and from school.

Parents who are interested in the program can submit a school bus application to their child's school office or online via eTritionA student's ID number is need to apply online. Parents will be notified if their child's application has been approved. It takes approximately two weeks to receive their Hele-On bus pass.

Free bus passes will be available to students who qualify for free transportation (see HIDOE's website under Free Bus Pass). For those who do not qualify for free transportation, quarterly bus passes are available at a discounted price of $72 (Hele-On bus pass value of $135).

To find a Hele-On route near you, visit their updated timetables and route maps webpage or call (808) 961-8744, option 1.
