Principal’s Message

A Blue wave crashing on itself.
I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome our 630+ students to Konawaena Middle School, home of the Wave Warriors.  My name is Teddy Burgess and I have served as Principal of Konawaena Middle School since 2010. The beginning of the school year is always exciting, as we anticipate what is to come.
For those of you not familiar with our school, you and your child will be part of a growing community here in South Kona and we will have many opportunities for you to get involved and stay involved in your child’s journey through Middle School. You can monitor your child’s progress on Infinite Campus which allows you to keep up with his/her progress in class, daily attendance, and communicate with teachers via email should any questions arise. Event opportunities like meet and greet and open house  along with parent shadow days and parent informational transition nights are all events to support the growth of parent engagement at KMS.
We are looking forward to working with you and your child(ren) in a partnership for their benefit.  Your child needs you more than ever through their middle school experience. Even if they try to push you away, don’t let them. Your involvement is one of the keys to their success. It is going to be a great year here at Konawaena Middle School and we look forward to the journey ahead as we partner together to “create independent and inquisitive life-long learners.” Enjoy the year and the many opportunities provided to your child to learn and grow as Wave Warriors.
